This is one-on-one career coaching to help you figure out what the heck you want and how to find the guts to go after it.
Because everyone deserves work that thrills and delights.
And, honey, that means YOU.
- You have a nagging feeling that you’re not in the right job.
- You dread Mondays.
- You don’t know what you want, but you know it’s not this.
- You feel trapped and stressed out.
- You know you need to make a change, but you don’t know where to start.
- When it comes to your career, your head tells you one thing, but your heart tells you another.
- You’ve felt lost and stuck for a long time.
- You want to explore the possibilities so you can finally make a change.
Career Shift: Get Your Career Mojo Back is a career coaching program for people who are sick and tired of feeling stuck and are finally ready to muster the guts to do something about it.
Because being lost feels shitty.
Because there IS something out there for you.
And because it’s about damn time you got unstuck.
This is for you if…
You don’t know what you want and you’re going bonkers trying to figure it out.
You want to really explore your options before you commit to making a change. You want to dig deep.
You want someone to help challenge some of your assumptions, because you always seem to paint yourself into a corner when it comes to exploring your career options.
You’re not hung up on having 100% certainty before you dip your toe in. Because, my friend, that just ain’t gonna happen. Career navigation is like a game of hot and cold. Frustrating, right?!
You’re down with me asking you some hard questions and pointing out your blind spots. It’s done with love.
This is not for you if…
- You want somebody to tell you what to do. Hell, that’s how a lot of people get into this mess in the first place – listening to somebody else’s advice instead of listening to their gut.
- You want to do a career or personality assessment. That’s just not how I roll. Assessments can be fun, but they’re often kind of, well, shallow. To get you where you want to go we’ll need to dig deep.
- You’re not willing to talk about your feelings. We’re just going to have to go there. If you think career navigation is purely a rational process, you’re nuts. It’s largely emotional.
“Thanks for helping me find the courage to make changes and showing me tools so that I can make informed decisions! It was so reassuring to know that you’d call me on my bullshit. I love my support network, but my cheerleaders sometimes find it hard to stay objective. I have a much clearer picture of what I want now.”
“Careergasm has given me direction and allowed me to pull the career answers I’ve been looking for from within myself. Sarah won’t tell you what you need, she’ll enable you to tell yourself.”
“I just received an offer!! And I’ll be making a much higher salary than I was at my last company. I am so thankful for your help throughout this super weird time in my life. Thank you again for everything!! Couldn’t have done it without you!”
“Thank you again for all of your help. Your words and advice continue to resonate with me almost daily and I’m super grateful for your help.”
“I never thought I could do this, Sarah. But just a few months after meeting with you, I’ve made it a reality. Thank you for cheering me on, telling me it’s possible and laying out the steps. Working with you was the push I needed to give it a shot and take flight. Lots of love, and so much thanks!”
“Sarah cut through the clutter of my internal BS and helped me unapologetically accept my strengths, passions, and non-negotiables — basically my career compass! She did it with the honesty and love of a sassy best friend. Thank you Sarah!”
“I hated my job so much I panicked when I had to cross a bridge that led to work. And when I woke up knowing I had to go the office. And when I sat at my desk. This was cell-deep hate — so deep I couldn’t see a way out. But I met with Sarah and I found a way out. You will too.”
“Sarah helped me recognize my superpowers, then develop them and share them with the world. My confidence went from 4 to 10 in a couple of months. Before we were done working together, I got a job that ticked all the boxes!”
You are not crazy for feeling stuck. A lot of people feel stuck, but nobody talks about it. The trick to getting unstuck is to move through your fear and uncertainty instead of letting it stifle you.
You know more than you think you do. Somewhere inside there is a very wise part of you that knows what you want. We’re going to go spelunking and get back in touch with the part of you that knows.
My friend, you are your own worst enemy (we all are). The stories you’ve been telling yourself about what you can and can’t have just aren’t true. We’ll take off those blinders and rewire some of that thinking.
Gut + Brain is the best tag-team duo there is…in life, and at work. The best career navigation is driven by the gut and executed by the brain. You need ‘em both, and they’re a match made in heaven.
Your doubts and fears are not going to go away (sorry, but I might as well tell you this upfront), but you can move through them and create a career that feels really, really, REALLY good.
You’ll feel psyched and empowered with the clarity of knowing what you want.
You’ll realize you can move through the fear and uncertainty (and not die in the process!).
You won’t feel like you’re winging it. You’ll have a road map and a partner in crime.
You’ll start taking action – with baby steps at first, then big, bold ones.
Instead of just thinking about making a change you’ll actually be doing it. Finally!
You and me.
Revving up your career mojo for 3 months.
We’ll meet for an hour in-person every 2-3 weeks to talk out your options and hatch a plan. That’s 5 coaching sessions to go deep until you’re feeling crystal clear on how to move forward. We’ll explore the possibilities, get clear on what you want, build a roadmap, and take action so you can move toward a carer you’ll love.
We’ll spend most of our sessions digging deep and exploring your passions, interests and curiosities. Maybe we’ll toss in some strategy. Maybe we’ll spend a session or two polishing your resume until it sparkles. How we do this is up to you, and everybody needs something a little different.
It’s my job to help you articulate what you want. I do that by asking a lot of good questions. And by listening like a ninja. And by pointing out some of your blind spots. And, occasionally, by calling you on some of your bullshit (it’s done with love, I promise). It’s your job to dig deep, be honest with yourself, and do the work.
We’ll meet over a cuppa joe in my office in downtown Toronto (Yonge & Bloor). Just you, me, your fav caffeinated bevy and a whole lotta magic.
I’m Sarah Vermunt, the gal behind Careergasm. I help people figure out what the heck they want so they can quit jobs they hate and do work they love. I’m all about helping people find their way to feel-good work, and for many that means ditching your soul-sucking gig and making a career change.
I write about careers for Forbes, Entrepreneur, Inc., and Huffington Post, and my work has been featured at Financial Times, Fortune, Tech Vibes, Toronto Star, Flare, Global News, The Globe and Mail, and lots of other cool places. I also personally know what it’s like to feel stuck and (more importantly) get unstuck. I’ve made some pretty badass career moves of my own:
After graduation I snagged a job in a totally unrelated field. Nailed it. Loved it.
I quit a stable gig with awesome pay, benefits, and pension to take a chance on something new.
I quit my PhD after 4 years and 93 pages into my dissertation. Yeah. Ballsy.
I left a six-figure career track to take a risk on building my own business. Spoiler alert: It paid off.
I continue to take calculated risks with my career…because doing the scary stuff often yields BIG rewards.
Through all of this I’ve been scared shitless, but did it anyway. You can too.
I work with brave souls who knock my socks off with their courage, perseverance, and heart. Some of my favourite clients are:
- A designer who started a web design company so she could work anywhere in the world.
- A former executive who does strategy consulting for musicians.
- A woman who makes the world’s most delightful cookies and sells them.
- A burned out event planner who created her own boutique firm.
- A media coach who helps people get press for their business.
- A corporate lawyer turned brewmaster. Pretty badass, right?!
“Sarah is a genuine no-BS kind of girl! She tells it to you straight and helps you get to the heart and soul of what rocks your socks. Sarah, thank you for your support and kindness. You changed my life! ”
“Outrageously refreshing! Sarah provides a warm, adventurous and innovative approach to reaching new heights both from a personal and career perspective. Loaded with thought-provoking insights and questions, her approach quickly illuminated what I needed more of and what I needed to chop. Sarah seamlessly turns dreams into reality. Thank you so much Sarah! You have helped me so much. Keep rocking!”
“I got a new job!! And I feel like it’s shaping up to give me all the things I wanted. I’m really excited to see where this new chapter takes me. Thanks again for all your help and support!”
“After reading her book cover to cover in just a couple days, I crossed my fingers so tight that Sarah would have a spot open for coaching. She did! And it’s the BEST thing I’ve done for my own happiness in years. We connected easily, and I always felt like we tapped into the true essence of what I want for my future; she didn’t try to fit me into a mold that didn’t feel ‘right’. I’m deeply grateful Sarah. Thank you!”
“I needed you. I didn’t know what I was doing before and it feels good to finally have a solid plan. Thank you SO much.”
“I started working with Sarah during a period of MAJOR change in my personal and work life. I was so overwhelmed and confused, I really had no idea where or how to start figuring out what to do next. From our first meeting, Sarah was a friendly, calming and inspiring influence, and she helped me systematically work through my emotional and career baggage to develop a plan for my next career move.”
“Thank you so much Sarah!! You’ve really changed my life for the better. My husband refers to you as “Sarah the Savior” — so there’s something to add to your business cards!”
“Combining her natural empathy with her strong guiding touch gives Sarah a truly unique edge when it come to career coaching. There is no tough love with this woman, just honest, powerful support. I would recommend her to anyone looking for clarity on the career front.”
